After keeping us waiting for months, Andy Rubin, the father of Android is finally releasing the much-awaited Essential Phone. Following Google’s acquisition of the Operating System, Andy Rubin branched out in 2014 to establish his own hardware company. Essential phone, the company’s first phone runs on pure Android without alterations. Today, we share with you all that you need to know about this phone to help you make an informed decision before you buy the phone.
Is it just another Android Phone?
Perhaps the most significant thing with this phone is its designer, Andy Rubin, who helped develop Android way back in 2003. Rubin later moved to Google in 2004 to head the company’s mobile development when the search giant company acquired Android Operating System in 2005. As such, you expect Rubin to understand the Operating System as the back of his hand. Therefore, Android idealists have profound expectations that this hardware will realize full potential of the OS.
The Essential Phone’s 5.7 inch edge-to-edge display with quad HD (2560 x 1312) resolution will undoubtedly amaze you. The phone is essentially bezel-free, lacking even a top bezel on its 8 MP front camera. It features Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 CPU, 3040 mAH battery, 4GB RAM and 128 GB storage. The phone presents you with a number of typical smartphone features including a fingerprint scanner, common sensors like barometer, accelerometer and gyroscope, and a USB-C with quick charging capability. While the phone lacks a headphone jack, it features a magnetic connector that enables you attach your accessories like a 360-degrees camera and dock. A 3.5 mm USB-C adapter will be shipped alongside the phone.
As for the cameras, the 13MP rear camera comes with a monochrome sensor. This feature helps you take better photos under low light intensity as well as true black and white images. The phone’s front camera will also enable you to shoot up to 4K video at 30 fps.
Interestingly, the phone manufacturer has decided not to place its logo anywhere on the phone. Thus, people might not even know the kind of phone you’re using unless you decide to tell them.
Essential phone also comes with a number of accessories that you’ll find to be really handy. While essential’s dock and camera are sold separately, they attach easily thanks to the device’s magnetic connector, which wirelessly transmits data between the accessory and your phone. For instance, the camera clicks to your phone’s rear and shoots photos and videos which are then transferred automatically to the phone.
What Color Options are Available?
As for now, you can choose between white-polished and black-matte colors. However, stellar-grey and ocean-depth color options are expected soon.
Most up-to-date Android OS Version
Essential Phone will run on the most current version of Android, Nougat 7.1.1, which comes without any modifications. The manufacturer has announced that the phone will receive 2 years of Android updates and 3 years of security patches. However, the company hasn’t stated how fast it will avail these upgrades to users.
